A Russian Military Official Dies in Moscow Incident, Authorities State.

Placeholder Aftermath of the Explosion Investigative Source

A senior Russian general has been fatally wounded following an blast in Moscow, according to reports from authorities.

The incident occurred on Monday morning when an explosive device planted beneath a vehicle was set off, causing the death of Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov.

Sarvarov was the head of the armed forces' operational training department.

Authorities indicated that one theory under investigation suggests the possible involvement of Ukrainian intelligence services. So far, Ukraine has offered no public response.

Location of the Attack

Personnel have been dispatched to the site, which is said to be in a southerly district of the city.

Reports suggest the blast took place in a car park near a residential building.

History of Incidents

Since the start of the full-scale conflict in Ukraine, a series of Russian military officials have been attacked within Moscow.

This new event comes after other serious incidents, including:

  • General Yaroslav Moskalik was lost his life in a vehicle explosion in Moscow earlier this year.
  • General Igor Kirillov died in late 2024 when a device concealed on a scooter was triggered from afar.

While a source from Ukraine earlier connected Kirillov's death to Ukraine's security service, such claims are never formally acknowledged as a matter of policy.

The war has increasingly seen shadowy operations extending into the streets of the Russian capital.

The investigation into General Sarvarov's death is still ongoing.
