England to Begin the European Championship 2028 Journey at the Etihad Stadium

The English squad will commence their Euro 2028 journey at the the home of Manchester City, assuming they attain the expected entry for a tournament taking place in the bulk of Britain and the Irish Republic.

City’s stadium has not welcomed an England men’s match since eight years ago, when Turkey were overcome 2-1 in a warm-up game, but is highly likely to host the England side for their opening fixture on June 10, 2028.

The English side are scheduled to play their concluding group fixtures at the national stadium, but, should they win their group, their round of 16 match would occur at Newcastle’s St James’ Park. Placing second would mean starting the knockouts at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Championship Opening and Protest

The event was launched at an event in Piccadilly Circus on Wednesday night. Key representatives from the tournament organizers and the organizing bodies were barracked as they arrived the location by approximately 50 pro-Palestine demonstrators, who urged Israel’s national side to be expelled from the sport because of the situation in Gaza.

Signs were displayed with messages saying “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while demonstrators chanted: “Kick Israel out.”

Event Fixture List

The opening game of Euro 2028 will be played at the the national stadium of Wales in the Welsh capital, on a Friday in June 2028, a match that will feature the Dragons if they make it.

Wembley Stadium will host both semi-finals and the championship match, which will be held on July 9, 2028 with a start time at late afternoon.

It is anticipated that an earlier start, which will also be used for Champions League finals from the upcoming season, will appeal to families and help reach a broader range of audiences.

Qualifying Teams

The Ireland are set to play their first game at the Aviva Stadium and the Scottish team would do the same at Hampden Park.

The national sides of all four hosts will take part in the preliminary stage; two reserved places will be set aside for any that miss out on the tournament through the qualification path.

Locations and Playoffs

Villa Park and The North London arena finalize the event’s nine venues. All will hold at least one knockout match, with the last eight played at every host’s main arena.

The draw for the qualifiers will be staged in the Northern Irish capital, which was removed as a tournament location last year when it emerged the Belfast stadium could not be redeveloped in time, on December 6, 2026.
