Peak Pizza? Domino's Pizza CEO Exits After Move Towards Chicken.

A head of Domino's Pizza Group who proposed the UK might have reached maximum pizza demand while diversifying the company into chicken products has been ousted after tensions with its board.

Leadership Change

Rennie is leaving after only 24 months in charge, and will be replaced on an temporary basis by the organization's operations head, Frampton, while the pizza giant seeks a long-term chief.

Rennie, who was with Domino's for a substantial period, had aimed to pivot Britain's biggest pizza food delivery firm towards poultry-based products, stating recently there was not “significant expansion” left in the pizza sector in the UK. He said chicken was the quickest rising food category in the world.

Governance Friction

Reports indicate that there was tension between Rennie and the governance team over his focus and management style, although the company's announcement said he was stepping down “as a joint decision”.

New Product Introduction

In the autumn, the chain launched its Chick 'N' Dip offering – which the former chief referred to as a “bold new chapter” for the organization – and is testing it in over 200 locations in the north-west of England and the province.

While the firm is still going to roll it out across its nearly 1,400 branches in 2026 as planned, it considers fried chicken as a supplement for its main pizza offerings.

Leadership Comment

Ian Bull, the company chair, commented: “We are confident that there are a range of possibilities to drive further growth and performance improvement in our primary operations. We are concentrating on finding the suitable leader to lead the disciplined execution of that expansion plan.”

Market Challenges

In the latest update, Domino's, which has millions of users in the UK and Ireland, said transactions dipped by 1.5% in the Q3. In the summer, it alerted that the takeaway market had “become tougher” as it blamed weaker consumer confidence in the period before the budget and increasing labor expenses for below-target performance and a 15 percent decline in half-year profits.

Competitors are also facing challenges. Another major chain disclosed the closing of 68 restaurants a month ago, after the company behind its outlets fell into administration.

Wellness Efforts

Responding to market shifts towards healthier eating, Domino's has launched light items, such as its Thin & Crispy line of pizzas below 400 calories as well as vegan and allergy-friendly options. A large pepperoni pizza has 2,311 calories. A big margherita has over 2,100, while a individual has 909 kcal.

Acting Management

Frampton has been with the company since the recent past, and had a background at the gaming group a well-known operator. It is thought that she is not seeking to assume the chief executive role long-term.

She commented: “Our team has a multiple active growth and efficiency programs that we will be focused on executing at speed.”

She added these involved ongoing development on the organization's procurement system and menu innovation, and its loyalty scheme.

Domino's is also lacking a permanent CFO until 16 March, when Andy Andrea joins from the beverage producer C&C Group. In the meantime, Snow serves as temporary CFO.
